Mah Jong Quest Expeditions DS
This popular ancient Chinese game has been enjoyed by over 4 million players worldwide on PC. The new DS version features classic Mah Jong gameplay with an intriguing twist, guaranteed to challenge anyone looking for a brain workout. As the world has fallen into a state of imbalance, teenage hero Kwazi is split into male (White) and female (Black).
Players must restore harmony to the world by guiding the two Kwazis through 8 mystical lands and 64 different puzzle boards. Choose from Quest, Classic or Puzzlemode to work through the levels, using the stylus or control pad to match pairs of tiles.
The puzzle board must be cleared before time runs out; points are won for every match made and matching four identical tiles in a row with extra bonuses awarded for remaining time.
I thought to myself this would be an easy review, I was sooo wrong.. First of all you have 3 modes of play: Quest - Classic - Puzzle all of which have you engaged in battle with the DS sometimes shouting at it and others running away furious as there sometimes is no understanding can be had about what happened and why you cannot choose the tiles you want to choose. Sometimes the tiles are really small and tend to give a little eye strain.
The game is quite fun to play. It is very addictive. I am about 6 levels into the quest and I am stuck!! I can’t progress any further because I always run out of moves.
This is my first experience playing Mah Jong, so I am hoping after some practice, I will be able to progress. The quest in Mah Jong has some pretty interesting twists and I am only a short way through it. One level involves a little guy who mixes up the tiles if you don’t get pairs fast enough. Some involve blocks of ice that you have to melt by matching up the tiles around them.
Out of them all the classic game is my favorite and I never get tired of it. Even though the layout is the same I have never seen the same board twice.
This is a fun game and adults and children will both like it. It is a good problem solving game and makes you think ahead and not just the next move.
Gameplay - 8/10 - Smooth playing, controls easy just point n tap.
Graphics - 8/10 - Boards never the same twice, tiles a little small sometimes.
Sounds - 6/10 - Sounds are not bad i tended to play with sound off.
Overall - 8/10 - If you like puzzle games, this is a must have for your DS collection.
